Groundwater Conservation in Hindu Temples



There is a tradition among Hindus to offer water (jal) or water and milk at the Shiva Temples. Pandit Purushotam Gaur (known as Guruji) from Jaipur started a “Jalabhishek campiangn” in 2000 which is basically water-harvesting campaign! So far he has developed water harvesting infra in 300 Temples in Rajasthan, where offered water is routed into wells through filter chambers and recharges the ground water levels! After covering almost all big temples in Jaipur, Guruji is now planning to extend the project to other parts of the country!

I think this is hugely commendable. Hats off to Guruji for such an innovative idea! I am sure this will make a real change for our environment…
