There
is a tradition among Hindus to offer water (jal) or water and milk at the Shiva
Temples. Pandit Purushotam Gaur (known as Guruji) from Jaipur started a “Jalabhishek
campiangn” in 2000 which is basically water-harvesting campaign! So far he has
developed water harvesting infra in 300 Temples in Rajasthan, where offered
water is routed into wells through filter chambers and recharges the ground
water levels! After covering almost all big temples in Jaipur, Guruji is now
planning to extend the project to other parts of the country!
You
can read more about it in newspapers [DNA]
(title: Water for the gods – now being conserved in temples), [TOI]
I
think this is hugely commendable. Hats off to Guruji for such an innovative
idea! I am sure this will make a real change for our environment…
